Accessibility Statement
Every effort has been made in the development of this web site to ensure that all pages meet the accessibility guidelines of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). This enables any visitor to access the contents of these pages, irrespective of any disability (sight, hearing, motor skill and learning deficiencies) and the visitor's operating system, browser or device.
Accessibility Features
The following are examples of features have been implement to improve the accessibility of this site:
- Images have associated alternative text which provides more information in the cases that images are switched off or the user has vision deficiencies.
- Link text in the main content make sense when read out of context.
- Links have title attributes which provide more information about the link destination.
- Content has been marked up using semantic XHTML that conforms to W3C standards.
- Presentation of these pages is controlled by the use of CSS.
- Navigation is improved through the use of access keys and a list of skip links at the top of each page.
- Colours have been chosen to enable sufficient contrast between background and foreground thus ensuring readability.
- Font size has been specified in relative terms and thus text is resizeable.
As a result, the pages on this site meet a minimum Level A compliance with the WAI guidelines, as well as a number of the Level AA and AAA guidelines.
Access keys
Access keys can be used to improve navigation for those with sight or motor skill deficiencies. On Windows systems hold down ALT and the access key, or on Mac OS CTRL and the access key for the focus to be placed on the relevent item.
